Once the third period began, Neal struck twice to take his tally to eighteen goals. Neal and Loui Eriksson combined for a neat give-and-go breakaway as Eriksson collected his thirty-second assist. It was Richards' second helper of the night as he brought his total to thirty.

Neal's second goal came on the red-hot Stars' power play as Stephane Robidas and Benn picked up their eighteenth and seventeenth assists respectively. Dallas' dominance with the man-advantage continued as Jeff Woywitka scored his first goal of the season, capping a 6-1 demolition. Morrow collected his thirteenth assist of the year and Ribeiro claimed his second of the night and his thirtieth of the season.

Stars' goalie Kari Lehtonen took particular pride in defeating his former employers, "It was the most exciting game for me this year, lots of emotions. I played my own game, the guys came up big there in the third period and the last parts of the second. It was a good win."

It was only fitting that on the evening of his 1000th career NHL game that Jamie Langenbrunner would play a major part in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The 16-year NHL veteran was honored during pregame ceremonies at the American Airlines Center as he was joined by two of his children, daughter Laine and son Mason on ice. His son Landon and wife Elizabeth were unable to attend as Landon was competing in a hockey tournament in Pittsburgh. Jamie was also presented with a silver stick from the organization which was delivered by former teammate and Stars' General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk.

The Kings grabbed the lead midway through the first period when Justin Williams found the game's opening goal but Stars responded on a power play near the halfway mark of the second period as Loui Eriksson's redirected effort evened the affair. It was the Swede's seventeenth of the year with Richards and Ribeiro collecting their thirty-fifth and thirty-first assists on the season.

Langenbrunner celebrates after scoring his first goal as a Star since 2002.
The night though would belong to Langenbrunner who scored a power play goal of his own before the second intermission, his fifth overall including his totals from New Jersey. It was the perfect occasion for Jamie to record his first goal since his return to the Lone Star state. Stars' fans had waited nearly nine years to see Langenbrunner score in a Dallas uniform as his last goal came on March 3, 2002, shortly before his trade to the New Jersey Devils. Richards picked up his second assist of the evening and his thirty-sixth of the year. The Stars' center-man continued to put on a show all evening by delivering an array of neat passes.

Lethonen's fine evening in net kept the Kings off the score-sheet for the rest of the night, ensuring a Stars' victory. Langenbrunner's goal proved to be the game-winner and capped a memorable night for the 35-year old as many of his family and friends were in attendance at the American Airlines Center.

After the game Langenbrunner gave thanks to Stars and fans who paid tribute his career, "It's definitely a nice touch. It's been kind of a hectic week and a half for me, but the guys have made me feel really good here, made me feel comfortable and at the beginning of the night, a great reception from the crowd."

The victory took the Stars' win steak to seven in a row and 7-2-1 in their last ten. Their overall record is 28-13-5 through 46 games. Dallas leads the Pacific Division are currently stand third place in the Western Conference. Brad Richards is ahead of all Stars with 54 points and 36 assists. Richards shares Dallas' lead in assists at 18 along with captain Brendan Morrow and James Neal. Loui Eriksson is atop the club's plus/minus standings at +17 and has a team-leading 7 power play goals. Kari Lehtonen is the Stars' leader in wins at 20 while Andrew Raycroft holds a better goals against average 2.05 and save percentage 93.4%.

Center Aaron Gagnon and left-wing Francis Walker have been recalled from the Texas Stars of the AHL. On the injury front, Matt Niskanen continues to recover from a deep cut to his left hand but has participated in practice drills. He's listed at day-to-day. Toby Petersen remains on the injured reserve with a lower leg injury.

The Stars travel to Western Canada to begin a three game road swing against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, followed by the visits to the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks before facing the Oilers at home on January 26th.
