Continued: Influence Of Langenbrunner and Veteran Leaders Allowing Blues To Come Together Quickly
“He does a great job with our younger forwards up top. In the way he plays, you can take a lot of great examples out of how he plays and how does all the little things right. I don't get the chance to sit with him on the bench much but I know he's a pretty good guy on the bench as far as talking to guys one-on-one and giving them a point here and there,” Shattenkirk explained.

Shattenkirk is just one player who is benefiting from playing alongside a group full of experienced veterans. Alex Pietrangelo, David Perron, T.J. Oshie and Patrik Berglund are continuing their progress under the guidance of the Blues' leadership group.

Langenbrunner spoke about the effect of the veterans and the willingness of younger players to step up and accept responsibility.

“It's a very good group of veteran guys. Barrett Jackman, Arnie, Scottie Nichol, Kent Huskins are guys who've been around a bit. We have a great group of young guys that are willing to learn and want to learn. There's some great leaders there in themselves. Pietrangelo has been stepping up and taking on that role a little bit and obviously Backes is a great captain,” he explained.

Langenbrunner also shared his impressions on the exciting young core who call the Scottrade Center home. “They've been around for a few years now and really coming into their own. I think they're extremely talented players that have been given big-time roles in this team and are really running with it. It's really helped our team elevate itself and continues to get better,” he said.

When asked about the promising futures of Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk, Jamie replied, “They're both pretty special. They both play the game a little differently but they both see the ice extremely well and have a lot of poise especially for two guys that are so young.”

Huskins described the team ethic that has gotten St. Louis to where they are right now, pushing Detroit for the Central Division crown and aiming for a high seeding in the Western Conference standings.

“Through experience, you learn that when you have as a strong system as we have, it's up to everyone. That's what it takes to win in this league, especially this time of year. It's up to everyone to get on board and take care of all the little unpleasant details that aren't really celebrated or given much appreciation in the media or the highlight reels,” Huskins stated.

Langenbrunner spoke about Hitchcock and the Blues' coaches preparing players with exactly what is needed to go out and compete with any opponent on any given night.

“He's simplified things a little bit. The previous coaching staff was also very prepared and the simplification has been very beneficial to us. There's no gray areas. We know what the first steps are and what we need to do. We just go from there.”
